Minutes

Government Affairs

Violence against nurses should be a felony just as it is for law enforcement personnel, etc.  KSNA is bringing a resolution to their floor regarding approval of marijuana for medicinal use.

Darlene’s Rport

Janie Schumacher is in Nursing  News.  There is a survey from Harborview on risk taking behavior in adult trauma patients.  Thus far, the KMS task force has not responded to Darlene’s inquiry to include KENA on the State of Emergency Care in Kansas.  Safe Kids – KDHE group – has provided money to bring Tiffany Shreever from Arizona to train Darlene in injury prevention.  Bucks for Belts is an insurance group sponsored activity.  There is money set aside for the promotion (American Family or State Farm).  People stand on corners and if you have belt on you get $1.  ACT sent an update to KSNA.  The hearing will be September 12 to implement Level 3 guidelines (the NHTSA evaluation of EMS recommended Level 4.)   Regional trauma committee meeting in Wichita at Wesley November 9.  EMS was evaluated by NHTSA as a result of a recommendation of the Driving Force.  No boarding in ED coming per JCAH due to the IOM report.

National Board of Directors, Mitch

ENA is working under a deficit, membership is flat, magnet hospitals no longer asking employees to join a professional organization.  The deficit is not as bad as before.  Growth is just not as great as anticipated.  Many factors influence ups and downs.  Strategic planning on-going.  Mitch has copy of by-laws and resolutions.
