monitors. Med-Ed has two new classes
coming to the region on the CEN review.
Susan shared regarding flood/oil disaster in her area. She reported it takes 24 hours to shut
down the refinery safely while they only had 6 hours notice. In all 300 homes and 75 businesses were
ruined. There was only one fatality -
a man who would not leave his hotel room.
Her area has had extensive training in emergency preparedness so that
part worked very well. They had to
decon all the people who were in the oily water. It was a great learning experience. Susan expressed how very proud of her hospital and community
she is. The hospital stepped up and
fed everyone. Their CEO spent eight
hours on July 4 in kitchen cooking.
Then last Monday the refinery/fertilizer plant had ammonia leak
affecting 46 people who required treatment.
All physicians came in to help.
On September 12, there will be a four hour burn presentation. You may apply on-line at education@kumc.edu and it is free. |

ENA is working
under a deficit, membership is flat, magnet hospitals no longer asking
employees to join a professional organization. The deficit is not as bad as before. Growth is just not as great as anticipated. Many factors influence ups and downs. Strategic planning on-going. Mitch has copy of by-laws and resolutions. |
